Putting the System Integrator in control; making life easier with Hiperwall.

A System Integrator’s mantra is to ‘get it right first time’; meticulous planning at the design stage will ensure no nasty surprises (and therefore costs) later.

But you can’t always plan for certain eventualities, and the control room environment is especially complex and dynamic. What the System Integrator wants most of all is flexibility.

Hiperwall’s IP-based infrastructure supports diverse system integration workflows which can be adapted as requirements change without the cost, complexity, and limitations of legacy AV-based proprietary systems.

Stephen Wair, business segment lead for Control Rooms at Sharp/NEC identifies the compelling advantages of partnering with Hiperwall to give the System Integrator an easier life!

Historically, control room video wall processing was entirely hardware based. Direct connection to CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes), matrixes and multi-viewers – the control room has come a long way. The lack of flexibility and constraints of proprietary hardware systems has led to a migration away from direct-connected systems.

The current generation of powerful video wall controllers are IP-based, no longer needing specially built or supplier specific hardware.

Hiperwall’s innovative distributed visualisation architecture allows System Integrators a high level of flexibility to build a video wall controller system that is highly reliable in its operation, endlessly scalable, and with wide ranging layers of resilience and redundancy.

Distributed visualisation

Hiperwall software is leading the industry with its distributed visualisation architecture. Instead of using a single computer or server for processing, like traditional platforms, Hiperwall’s unique and powerful system distributes the visual processing load to each computer in the Hiperwall network.

Every time a computer running Hiperwall software is added to the Hiperwall network, it not only adds a new content source or destination, but it also adds more processing power.

As a result, the total processing power of the Hiperwall system automatically increases as the number of components increases. This means that large walls do not outgrow the processing capabilities of the complete Hiperwall system and ensures that operators have the power to display a huge number of sources at one time.

Standard Ethernet

Where legacy video wall systems typically require a complex combination of servers, matrix switches, and distribution amplifiers to deliver content to a video wall, the only infrastructure that Hiperwall needs is Ethernet. By eliminating this myriad of equipment, the Hiperwall system significantly reduces cost, complexity, space requirements, energy use, and cable clutter.

Meanwhile, the pressure is off the System Integrator’s ‘get it right first time’ strategy – there is now no end of ‘wiggle-room’! Simply flood the facility with gigabit Ethanet cabling at an early stage in the development process to save time and money down the line. The cost of redundant cable is so much lower than the cost of replacing broken cables and connections once a room is fully installed.

Hardware agnostic

The major advantage of a network-based video wall controller is that the System Integrator is free to use any equipment brand of his choice – display, PC or network switches, even repurposing existing hardware. By leveraging existing supplier relationships, System Integrators can be mindful of end user cashflow, and as equipment manufacturers enhance their products, the whole system can improve incrementally. This future-proof approach ensures your system will grow with you, always harnessing the latest technologies whilst limiting wastage.

Unlimited scalability

An IP-based system can link together as many displays as needed. There’s no limit to the size of videowall; add a further display for the Incident Room manager; a projector in the break-out room and collaboration displays in the briefing room – each addition requires no more effort that fitting the display to the network. It simply becomes another ‘drag & drop’ destination for sources, quickly improving the control room system’s operational performance. With Hiperwall, the system can develop incrementally as the end users’ needs change in the future.

Resilience

Hiperwall software’s distributed architecture allows the use of two controllers in a system. With two control points working simultaneously the system is protected. If one controller goes down for any reason, the other takes over seamlessly. No panics, no stress, Hiperwall’s fault tolerant system affords the System Integrator complete peace of mind. Meanwhile, those overseeing who's accessing the system have robust user access control, tracking tools, and detailed authorisation levels to give full control over security.
